The Move

One year ago, our family made the crazy decision of moving from Rochester, NY, across the Atlantic to Stockholm, Sweden. To a country that we have never visited, never met anyone from, and a language that we don’t understand. My wife and I brought our 2 young kids, our dog, and our two cats on the biggest adventure of our lives.

I accepted a teaching position at an International School, after finding and applying to several through a simple Google search. After studying the Scandanavian culture for years, specifically their parenting and education philosophies, I thought what better way to learn more about it than to experience it first-hand!

After living in Sweden for almost a year now, we would like to share some of our experiences from here and lessons learned. We are absolutely not experts in Swedish culture, and are only going to be offering our biased perspective and opinions, but hopefully this can be helpful for others looking to do the same thing in the future!

Stay tuned for future posts where we share our experiences with:

  • Education
  • Pre-school
  • Parenting styles
  • Parental leave
  • Health care
  • Transportation
  • Food
  • Cost of living
  • Crime and safety
  • Random stuff that I can’t think of right now…
